Hi there, I’m Matt.

Some of you may know me from TikTok, (welcome to anyone who has followed me here), where I posed video content under the handle @hifijunkie. Between the hazy fate of that app and a desire to post more long-form content, the jump to Substack felt appropriate for me. While no platform is a perfect solution right now, this checks a lot of boxes.

A little about me: 30-something lover of jazz music, hifi, art, fragrance, etc. Sonic Explorations is mostly focused on music sharing — with particular interest in jazz — and how music relates to other facets of culture, from art to fragrance. I’ll also touch on HiFi and home audio, though mostly from the perspective of providing some base level knowledge and tips on how to put together a home system for yourself.

I love sharing music, but I enjoy being shown new music even more. My comments, subscriber chat, and DMs are always open to a chat about music or audio, so feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help with recommendations when I can. I’m happy to shout out any great recommendations in future posts, as well.

I intend on keeping my content totally free forever, with paid subscriptions only as a way to support my posts. Often, posts are very time consuming and sometimes costly if purchasing music or fragrances specifically to make posts. While I do this out of my own passion and interest, any support is appreciated.
